Modern Theatre Dance - 4 years plus

What is Modern Theatre Dance?...a question I'm frequently asked! Modern Theatre Dance can adopt different styles...from Jazz to Contemporary, to Street/Pop. It trains a strong dance technique that’s frequently used in Musical Theatre and Commercial Pop dancing. Think 'dancy' West End shows, like 'Cats' all the way to the most up-to-date pop songs. Children who find ballet too full of 'rules' often enjoy Modern.

From a child's 4th birthday they are invited to join our ISTD exam classes. Exams start at the Primary level and run right through to advanced vocational exams as teenagers. As a guide, I normally start 4-5-year-olds in Pre-Primary, 6-7-year-olds in Primary, 8-9-year-olds in Grade 1, and after this age children are placed in a class based on their ability rather than age. The exam syllabus is the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and exams from Grade 1 upwards count towards UCAS points on University applications. If you are looking for a class not listed in our timetable please contact Katie to see if anything can be arranged.
